I was doing some research on polyamory on YouTube for an upcoming post, and came across this video by Jordan Peterson: “Why Polyamory Is Bad For You And Society”. I thought I would take some time to respond to this information and how, as a polyamorous person, it affected me.
Hurricane Dorian was the first experience Richtig Haus has had facing such an extreme weather event. We didn’t know what to expect and how badly we would be affected. With power still out in much of the province, we are now getting a clearer picture.
I didn’t know where I was going when I started writing “Chalkboard”. I wanted to write a story that was a mashup of something like Silence of the Lambs meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I have always been fascinated with these movies, as they are both about human predators. In both instances the main villain, (Hannibal Lector, Leatherface) are cannibals who prey upon others. Hannibal Lector plays a game with his quarry, whereas Leatherface tends to be more set on the kill than the game.
Adam & Steve was written at a time when I believed in using parody to reclaim power. I was honestly tired of hearing, “It’s Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve” throughout much of my life, and this became a passive aggressive way of dealing with it. These days I find that inaction is preferable.
“Fear” was my first short story to be published. I had lived alone for about a year and a half when I wrote this story. I was living in Whitby, ON, and my then partner had taken a job in California. Living alone with only dogs and cats to talk to can make anyone feel as if they are slowly going crazy.
Point flaws out to perfectionists.
